Welcome to the OU ITE Partnership
We are proud to deliver the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Wales at The Open University in Wales. Accredited by the Education Workforce Council, we offer innovative Initial Teacher Education (ITE) across Wales. If you're aspiring to become a teacher, achieving a degree or PGCE that leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential — and we're here to support that journey.
This site is designed for our current and prospective partner schools, as well as wider stakeholders. It also provides detailed guidance on both the salaried and part-time routes, which will be helpful for schools considering endorsing or hosting aspiring teachers.
Who We Are
The OU ITE Partnership brings together The Open University, The Open University in Wales, and a wide network of partner schools, and educational stakeholders. At the heart of this partnership are our aspiring student teachers.
Together, we create a rich and supportive environment where student teachers can develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become outstanding educators. Our programme combines academic rigour with practical experience, preparing students to achieve QTS at either primary or secondary level. It is fully accessible across Wales and can be studied in either English or Welsh.
Our Programme
Our two-year postgraduate PGCE programme is designed to support deep reflection, self-evaluation, and professional growth — all essential elements of the teacher development journey.
We offer two study routes:
• A salaried (employment-based) route
• A part-time route
Both are available at primary and secondary levels.
