The session focuses on how open research and protection of intellectual property (IP) are complimentary approaches to achieving the same goal: the generation of impact from research. The session will give an overview of what research intellectual property is and how it is managed and will discuss factors that should be taken into consideration when deciding whether to protect IP or take a more open research approach. The session will include time for attendees to discuss the two approaches in light of their own research.
