This session will provide an overview of copyright and your thesis responsibilities. It will cover copyright basics and outline why it is important. The session will also help you to understand why permission to use copyrighted content is needed and to discover the exceptions to this rule. Ethical and legal issues will also be discussed to give you an understanding of the reasons why copyright and related intellectual property rights are important to consider early on in the process to assist with the publication of your thesis in our Open Research Online (ORO) repository. You will have the opportunity to test your knowledge and to take on a copyright task to discuss in Part 2 of this series.
