Strategic Training Needs Analysis for Artificial Intelligence [Ref 2.24]

This project involved conducting a comprehensive Strategic Training Needs Assessment (STNA) to evaluate a police organisation’s readiness to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) across all roles and ranks. Delivered by the Open University’s Centre for Policing Research and Learning, the assessment explored organisational capabilities, workforce preparedness, and the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating AI into policing operations.

Through a detailed mixed-methods approach, the assessment examined current understanding of AI, attitudes toward adoption, and the types of training different groups require to build capability. Its aim is to support the organisation in building a confident, AI-enabled workforce, improving operational effectiveness, and enhancing public trust through responsible and transparent use of new technologies.
