Ecohydrology of floodplain meadows

We host the Floodplain Meadows Partnership. Our long-term monitoring research into floodplain meadows helps with conservation and restoration of these habitats.

Our researchers specialise in:

Soil water and nutrients influence on vegetation communities;
Habitat restoration and management;
Engagement with local communities.

Our research includes looking at the impacts of flooding, water regime, climate change and nutrient cycling on floodplain meadows.

We share our research with farmers and land managers as well as the conservation sector through our public engagement and undertake management trials on many sites across the UK.

We are also expanding our work on UK floodplain meadows to similar habitats communities elsewhere in the world, including Siberian floodplains.

Current projects include:

Mitti Matters: Co-creating enhanced ecosystem services from green spaces, involving (from EEES) Richard Holliman, David Gowing, Emma Rothero, Olivia Nelson, Yoseph Araya, Sarah Davies and Vicky Bowskill.
