In 2025 The Open University was awarded £5 million in funding from the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) to establish and run the Research Capability Hub (RCH). The Research Capability Hub brings together research training, resources and development opportunities for the UK social science community. It is designed to make it easier for researchers and learners to find relevant support, for providers to share their provision, and for the social science community to work together to identify emerging training needs.
This session will introduce the Research Capability Hub (RCH), including progress from year 1 of the Hub. Attendees will gain an understanding of what the RCH has developed during its first year, what it has learned, and what opportunities there are to engage with the Hub going forward. The session will provide examples of RCH learning resources, information about the 'flexible fund', and opportunities for collaboration on future provision. The session will include an interactive activity where attendees are asked to explore emerging skills and methods priorities with peers and contribute their perspective to the future direction of provision.
