New report sheds light on tenants’ experience of decarbonisation

Thermostat

A new report published this week explores some of the challenges faced by tenants in social housing in Wales as a result of decarbonisation measures.

A Fair and Equitable Transition? is based on focus group interviews  with social housing tenants, and aligns their experience with current discussions on environmental policy in Wales. It is a collaboration between, Tai Pawb, a Welsh housing justice and equality charity and The Open University.

The research team found that in many cases low- carbon technologies could help tenants reduce energy bills, but in other cases led to confusion and even increased inequalities.

Dr Vickie Cooper, Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Social Policy at The Open University led the research. She said:

Its been a pleasure to lead on this study and work in partnership with Tai Pawb. This study brings marginalised voices to the table. Their experiences crucially inform the key research findings, conclusions, and recommendations about fair and equitable low carbon housing for diverse tenants.
