OU in Wales works to support the third sector

This year The Open University in Wales is the lead sponsor for the Welsh charity awards. This event gives us the opportunity to celebrate the work and successes of charities, community groups, not-for-profits and volunteers in Wales. The awards are organised by WCVA, the national membership organisation for the third sector and volunteering in Wales.

The categories this year include Volunteer of the year, Fundraiser of the year and Champion of diversity. The ceremony will take place on 25 November 2024.

‘We’re proud to be the lead sponsor of the Welsh Charity Awards this year,’ said Helen Thomas, Partnerships Manager at The Open University in Wales. ‘It’s very important to us that the hard work of charities and third sector organisations are acknowledged and celebrated. We hope to build on this relationship with WCVA and continue to support the work of third sector organisations with the learning opportunities we can provide.’

Training for charities

‘Get Ahead with Volunteering’, the OU’s training programme for volunteers in Wales, is also due to begin next week, following a successful pilot earlier in the year.

The free nine-week programme helps volunteers to improve their professional skills and develop their volunteering careers. It has been produced in partnership with WCVA.

‘By working together, we’ve created accessible learning for volunteers, increasing their skills, confidence and awareness of learning opportunities,’ added Sara Sellek, Assistant Director at WCVA.
