The Open University has been accredited by the UN-recognised Cabon Literacy Project as a Bronze Carbon Literate Educator.

This prestigious accreditation recognises our commitment to embed climate education and action, through Carbon Literacy, into our educational institution and ethos, and facilitate a cultural shift to a zero-carbon society.

Carbon Literacy is defined as, “An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce missions, on an individual, community and organisational basis”. and revolves around a day’s worth of learning and action on climate change.

Over the last three years, the OU has seen 633 staff and students receive certificates for undertaking Carbon Literacy Training, delivered through OU facilitators, Ismay Mummery, Jodi Houghton and Lizzie McCauley.

A huge thanks to our facilitators for delivering the training and to those staff and students who took part.

Staff and students can find out about future Carbon Literacy Training on the Sustainability Get Involved web pages.
