Who should attend?
If you are new to research degree supervision and are currently supervising or co-supervising a PhD student or, if you have not yet supervised a student to completion, Open University policy requires you to undertake initial training within the first 6-12 months of beginning the role within the University or within the Affiliated Research Centre. This includes experienced supervisors who are new to the Open University as well as newly qualified supervisors.
Furthermore, those who would like a refresher in supervisory training and our ever-changing regulations and practices are also welcome to attend. This interactive training is offered twice a year and is highly rated by both new and experienced supervisors.
Overview
These workshops will not only explain how to support students in research degrees journey but also how the university supports the supervisors. There will be interactive sessions to discuss supervisory best practice, managing obstacles and how the University supports you to achieve this.
Research Supervisor Forums are organised by Academic Professional Development (APD) to create an opportunity for supervisors of postgraduate research students to come together to share ideas and good practise regarding student supervision. A variety of sessions run at different times throughout the year. These sessions are open to both new and experienced research supervisors.
