Discover Library resources on disability history and trans experiences

November sees two separate awareness events: Trans Awareness Week (13–19 November 2026) and Disability History Month (19 November–19 December 2026).

To mark both occasions, the OU Library is highlighting resources to help you explore the subjects in more depth - whether you’re looking for something to read, listen to, learn from, or share with someone else.

Explore trans stories and experiences

Trans Awareness Week is an opportunity to raise the visibility of transgender and gender-diverse people, as well as celebrate trans experiences and challenge discrimination.

Our Trans experiences curated resource list, created in collaboration with the OU Trans Staff Network, brings together articles, eBooks, websites and videos exploring trans stories and experiences. Whether you’re looking to learn more or want to explore different perspectives, it’s a useful place to start.

You can also find more to read and listen to on Libby, including eBooks, magazines and audiobooks in our LGBTQ+ collection.

Discover disability history and experiences

Disability History Month explores the history, rights and experiences of disabled people, helping to recognise their contributions and better understand the barriers they have faced and continue to face.

Our librarians have brought together a Disability History collection of resources exploring the history, rights and experiences of disabled people. Covering topics including education, online spaces, historical attitudes and activism, it offers a starting point for learning more about disability and the barriers people continue to face today.

There’s more to discover on Libby, too, with a dedicated Disability History collection featuring further reading and listening.
