Students Unite for Hedgehogs

Hedgehog Friendly Campus

The OU's Student Union, for their quarterly team meeting ran a session on Hedgehog Friendly Campus and organised a fundraising raffle for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

After talking to Student Union staff about how to add wildlife-friendly habitats to their gardens, the Hedgehog Friendly Campus team opened the raffle with the top prize being an incredible bird table salvaged from bookshelves by Paul in the Fabrics team. Everyone was desperate to win the bird table, so this helped to sell £136 worth of tickets!

It's really important work that the British Hedgehog Preservation Society does, providing advice for people who find sick and injured hedgehogs and doing invaluable advocacy work for these animals.

Would you like to help hedgehogs? Here's some things you can do:

  • Attract more insects to your garden by adding a bug hotel or log pile
  • Organise a hedgehog highway with your neighbours so that hedgehogs can move between gardens to find food and a mate
