How do I get help with my module?

Support from your school's YASS Co-ordinator:

Your school’s YASS Co-ordinator will support you through the module selection and registration process.

They can also provide support during your module, such as through regular check-ins to reflect on your progress. They are not expected to provide academic support.

Support from The Open University (OU):

Knowing when to ask for help is a key skill. If you ever need advice or support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Once registered on a module, pupils can access a wide range of support and services from the OU, including:

If your circumstances change, it’s best to get in touch as soon as possible. For example, if you wish to:

Change module:

  • Ask your school’s YASS Co-ordinator to contact the OU’s YASS Team (0131 549 7112) to ask to change the module. Any module change request must be completed before 3 September 2026, to ensure that we can have everything in place for you by the time your module starts. The earlier you ask, the easier it is to ensure a place can be found for you on your preferred module.

Cancel module:

  • If you wish to withdraw from your module before the module starts on 3 October, you or your school’s YASS Co-ordinator can contact the OU’s YASS Team (0131 549 7112).
  • If you wish to withdraw after the module starts, you need to contact the OU Student Support Team (0131 226 3851) yourself. There won't be any cost to you or your school, but there is a process you need to ensure the withdrawal is complete, so it doesn’t show as a fail on your student record.

Leave school before or during S6:

  • If you leave school before the official module starts on 3 October, you can continue your module, but will need to find alternative funding. The OU Student Support Team (0131 226 3851) can talk through your funding options and any key dates and deadlines to having your funding in place.
  • If you leave school after the module has started, you can continue your studies; you won't be liable for the module fee, even if you later decide to withdraw.
