Centre for Scholarship and Innovation
This session introduces a tool which was developed as the outcome of a project looking at student aspirations at the start of their learning journeys. Drawing on a large bank of postcard confessions sent to the U101 module team persona Lola, a set of ‘tarot’ cards has been created that can be used as a basis for reflection and discussion with ALs, students and other staff. The session will introduce the cards and discuss the workshop format that has been developed to aid their use. What will the cards tell you?
In this talk, we will talk through how we have reached the point of introducing group work on a Stage 1 statistics module. We define group work as 'collaboration and cooperatively working with others to complete a task or project'. We will include students feelings towards group work, why we think it is an important skill and how we have worked with tutors to develop the incorporation of group work to the module. We will also explain how the module assessment has been adapted in the light of implementing group work on the module.
