Centre for Scholarship and Innovation

I am a Senior Lecturer and Staff Tutor in the School of Engineering and Innovation. I have a MA and a PhD in Social Anthropology from University of London. I joined the OU in 2000 as an Associate Lecturer and became a Staff Tutor in 2009. I have undertaken research in East and West Africa on pastoralism, ethnic identities and the impact of Chinese migrants on Africa’s development. My current scholarship interests include the impact of international scholarship exchange, inclusive curriculum and professional development of Open and Distance Learning practitioners.
I am a Senior Lecturer and Staff Tutor in the School of Environment, Earth and Ecosystem Sciences. I have a BSc in Chemistry, an MSc in Physical Chemistry and a DPhil in Physical Organic Chemistry. I joined the OU in 1993 as an Associate Lecturer and became a Staff Tutor in my current role in 2018. Since 2005 I have been involved in scholarship projects in the OU, currently my scholarship is focussed on making improvements for students as they transition from stage 1 to stage 2 and from stage 2 to stage 3.
I studied for my undergraduate degree at the University of Derby and hold a BA (Hons) in Law with European Studies. I joined the Open University in December 2005 when I worked as Centre Secretary for the two STEM focused Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETLs). This was an externally funded initiative by HEFCE which ran for 5 years. I have worked for eSTEeM since its creation in 2010 and currently occupy the role as Senior Centre Manager for eSTEeM. I am required to manage and support operational delivery of eSTEeM, the STEM Faculty’s Scholarship and Innovation Centre, and plan and enable strategic alignment of STEM scholarship with wider university initiatives.
