Library Search will be getting a new look from 15 July 2026. You won't have to do anything; the new Library Search will automatically appear wherever you use it.
The updated design will make it easier to find books, journal articles and other academic resources. It will work better across different devices, with improved search filters to help you find the information you need more quickly. We've also made improvements to accessibility to help create a better experience for all users.
The new design has been informed by research, testing and feedback from OU students, including members of the Library Student Panel, a group of student volunteers who help improve Library services. Their insights have helped make Library Search easier to use.
An exciting new feature called ‘Help me build my search’ will help you get started with your research. Simply type your question or topic in your own words and the tool will create a search for you, applying useful filters automatically. It also shows you how the filters work, helping you learn how to build effective searches yourself.
If you'd like to improve your confidence using Library Search and other Library resources, the Library offers free online training sessions covering searching for information, referencing, study skills and more. Find out more via the Training and Events page on the Library website.
