As part of our keeping in touch days we held a virtual event regarding loss and bereavement in July 2021. This was well attended by both people with learning disabilities, family members and professionals and there were keynote presentations from Prof. Irene Tuffey-Wijne and Richard Keagan-Bull (from Kingston University) as well as examples of toolkits used with adults with learning disabilities from Talkback and Pamis.
The personal experiences of loss shared by Irene and Richard cannot be made available here for reasons of confidentiality, but the slides from the two groups are included. The virtual event was extended to allow participants to share their own experiences of bereavement, offering support and signposting to external agencies if appropriate.
