3.16 Implementing the transformation of police learning and development

November 2017 - September 2019

The major changes occurring in policing to meet Policing Vision 2025 include the recognition of the value in enhancing and changing police forces’ approaches to training, learning and development.

This is an important strategic undertaking so the project has been designed as action research – aiming to both understand but also work collaboratively with forces and national agencies to improve the training, learning and development function in police services, both strategically and operationally.

Research on police wellbeing presented at the Canterbury CC Policing Research Conference

At the Canterbury CC Policing Research Conference in January 2025, Dr. Keely Duddin and Dr. Sarah-Jane Lennie presented research on "Advancing Wellbeing in Policing by Addressing Perinatal Mental Health and Maternity Challenges" on behalf of the wider research team, including Kendal Wright, Fran Wright - The OU and Dr. Krystal Wilkinson from Manchester Metropolitan University. Dr Sarah-Jane Lennie also presented research on "Police Families Wellbeing: A Debt of Gratitude".
