Following the success of last year’s collaborative seminar on police whistleblowing, we’re pleased to invite CPRL members to a follow-up interactive workshop focused on developing and validating a new, improved whistleblowing measurement scale.
In our previous session, we explored the practical and theoretical challenges of whistleblowing in policing and co-created a range of realistic scenarios to inform the design of a new scale. Since then, we’ve created and refined the scale based on your valuable input — and now we need your expertise and critical feedback to help evaluate it.
This interactive seminar will be led by Livvi Taylor (PhD researcher, Lancaster University), alongside Dr Richard Philpot and Professor Mark Levine (Lancaster University), and Professor Zoë Walkington (Open University).
No specialist knowledge is required, and all perspectives are welcome — though we particularly encourage those with an interest in whistleblowing, ethics and police accountability to attend.
Participants will receive the draft scale and scenarios in advance, to allow time for reflection ahead of the session. If you missed the first seminar, don’t worry — we’ll bring everyone up to speed. We look forward to your insights and contributions as we take this important next step.
Our new Professor of Policing and Research, whose role includes becoming Academic Director of our Centre for Policing Research and Learning (CPRL), is Clifford Stott MBE.
As the Centre’s lead, a significant part of his role will be working with academics across and beyond the Faculty, as well as CPRL’s police force partners, to generate research and learning relevant to theory, policy and practice.
