We are delighted to share news of a brilliant new "River Stories" exhibition which is now open at the Manchester Histories Hub in the Manchester Central Library until Saturday 21st March. River Stories brings together the collective concerns and creative work of Many Hands Craft Collective, artist Liz Wewiora, and our very own doctoral researcher & artist, Fiona Brehony.
We're really pleased to announce that OpenSpace member, Alessandra Marino, has just published a new paper 'From disorder to harm? Governing the Moon and protecting its sites of interest'. It is part of the Global (Dis)Order international policy programme ran by the British Academy and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
OpenSpace member Sonja Rewhorn, along with co-authors David Higgitt and Derek France, have just published an editorial in the Journal of Geography in Higher Education, ‘Sharing, showcasing, shouting: a half-century’. You can read it here. The Editorial marks its 50th volume of the journal by reflecting on its origins as a forum for sharing geography teaching innovation. Enduring themes include fieldwork, technology and debates over curriculum.
We're really pleased to announce OpenSpace members, Parvati Raghuram and Gunjan Sondhi, have a brilliant new chapter out entitled "Decolonising This, Decolonising That: Beyond Rhetorical Decolonisation in Migration Studies".
We're delighted to hear that OpenSpace member, Lucy Baker, with co-authors, Julien Potron and Daniel Kerr, were awarded a best paper award for their submission on ‘The uneven geographies of off-grid solar PV’ at the 2025 Globelics International Conference.
Emeritus Professor John Allen has published a new book out entitled Power and Space: Essays on a shifting relationship with Routledge. Power and Space sets out the inherently spatial nature of power today and seeks to change the conversation around how power exercises us in the contemporary moment.

Professor Parvati Raghuram (OU) and Professor Mariangela Palladino (University of Keele) have recently published a new blog post on the UKRI website discussing the possibilities of forging transformative changes in equitable research partnerships through local engagement.
Professor Farhana Sultana (Syracuse University) delivered a keynote to launch the ‘Voices from the Global South’ project, a collaboration between the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) (with the Institute of British Geographers), the International Geographical Union and The Open University. It was held at the RGS, London in June 2024. In her keynote Professor Sultana engages diverse perspectives on the climate crisis, emphasising the significance of incorporating insights from academic, policy, and indigenous advocacy groups in confronting ongoing climate coloniality.
As part of the ESRC IAA grant, Professor Parvati Raghuram (Open University), Dr. Melis Cin (Lancaster University), and Dr. Manu Lekunze (University of Aberdeen), in collaboration with Chris Winter (Geography Association) and Dan Whittall (Geography Association), have developed new teaching materials for Key Stage 3 (ages 11–14) to address the climate crisis through a decolonial lens, focusing on a case study from Cameroon.
