Publishing a paper? Keep control from the beginning

From 1 March 2026, the OU’s new Research Publications Policy comes into force.

We’ve simplified Open Access publishing at the OU so researchers can focus on research:

  • You keep the rights to your Author Accepted Manuscript
  • Your Author Accepted Manuscript goes open on Open Research Online (ORO) when your article does - no embargos
  • There is a clear, supported opt-out route if required.

Visit the guidance webpages and sign up to an introductory session on 24 March to learn more. Contact the Research Support team with any questions.
