OECD Water Governance Initiative

On the 10th anniversary of establishing the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Principles of Water Governance, Kevin Collins attended the 20th meeting of the OECD Water Governance Initiative (WGI) at the OECD HQ in Paris 28-29th January. Over 150+ WGI members convened in person and online.

Design article in The Psychologist

Rachel Wood and Sam Osys, both working towards PhDs in Design at the Open University, published a joint article entitled 'Emotional engagement is an essential part of the design process' in The Psychologist. They both work in the design industry: Rachel as Head of Customer Journey in public services, and Samantha as a Design Strategist and Senior Solutions Designer in the financial sector. In the article they discuss how they integrate psychology and behavioural science in human centred design.

Theo Zamenopoulos and Katerina Alexiou in the School of Engineering and Innovation are the lead academics in an Open Societal Challenges Challenge Us! Project established in collaboration with Fidele Mutwarasibo from the OU Business School, Alex Cole of TIN Ventures, the MK Community Foundation, and MK Ethnic Business Community.

Hydrogen storage in depleted gas reservoirs

Researchers in the School of Engineering and Innovation recently published a paper on H2 storage in depleted gas reservoirs with CO2 in a lateral orientation to reduce gas mixing. This work, which was a collaboration with the University of Edinburgh and C-Questra, uncovered benefits and trade-offs associated with range of H2 storage conditions. Large-scale H2 storage in depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs offers a practical way to use existing energy infrastructure to address renewable energy intermittency.

Reappointment of Gareth Neighbour as Senior Editor of the journal Carbon

Gareth Neighbour from the School of Engineering & Innovation has been re-appointed for a further three-year term as the Senior Editor of the high-impact (IF=10.5), leading international journal Carbon.  The journal reports the latest research on carbonaceous materials, their production, properties and applications.  He has worked with the journal since 2013 when he was appointed as a full editor and subsequently appointed Senior Editor in 2021. ​The Editorial Board comprises 18 editors who are highl

Congratulations to Lois Damptey

Lois Damptey, a GCRF funded PhD student at the school of Engineering and Innovation, under the supervision of Professor Satheesh Krishnamurthy, Prof N.S. Braithwaite and Prof Vasant Kumar (from University of Cambridge), The Open University has won the best 'Youth Excellence award in Science and Engineering' in Ghana. Her PhD work focussed on providing low-cost technological solutions to treat wastewater streams.
