OU ranked second in Scotland for student satisfaction

The Open University (OU) has ranked second in Scotland for overall student satisfaction in the 2026 National Student Survey (NSS).

Students’ feedback gave it an overall satisfaction score of 90.8% in the recently-published results. 

The NSS is held annually across the UK to record students’ experiences and to help shape improvements for current and future learners. 

Teaching on courses, assessment and feedback, student voice, plus organisation and management are among the topics covered.

Lindsay Wilson, Deputy Director for Student Experience at the OU in Scotland, said: 

“A huge thank you to all of our eligible students who took part in this year’s National Student Survey – to come second-highest among Scotland’s universities for overall student satisfaction is a fantastic achievement. 

“In the pursuit of their study goals and successes, many of our learners juggle other commitments, such as work, family life, and caring responsibilities. Taking time amidst their busy weeks to share opinions for the NSS is greatly appreciated.”

Added Lindsay: “We are the largest provider of part-time higher education in Scotland. Flexible university-level opportunities are important to our learners, who live right across the country in every council area: from Shetland to Dumfries and Galloway; East Lothian to the Western Isles.  

“While each learner’s background and route into study may be unique, every OU student can expect to receive excellent support on their journey from our dedicated staff, and have a highly-rated experience.

“Feedback shared by our student community in this year’s survey, and during the year through other methods, is invaluable in helping us to build on that even further.”
