Martin Boyle has been appointed as Depute Director at The Open University in Scotland. He will oversee Strategy, Planning and Resources and be part of The OU in Scotland’s leadership team.

Martin was latterly Executive Director of the Glasgow Colleges’ Regional Board, serving as accountable officer for the strategic planning, funding and monitoring of the Glasgow college system. He has also worked in education with a senior role at the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), as a Creative Industries faculty head, Education Scotland associate assessor, and lecturer.

Prior to this, Martin worked in the media as a journalist across print, broadcasting and online. He holds degrees across education, journalism and English from Cambridge, Glasgow, Strathclyde and Dundee universities. He is also a current Director of Kilmarnock Football Club.

Martin Boyle, Depute Director (Strategy, Planning and Resources), said:

"I'm genuinely thrilled to be joining The Open University in Scotland. From its roots to the present day, it is an organisation steeped in making a real-world difference, unlocking opportunity for people and their communities.

"The Open University is at the forefront of providing a flexible, meaningful and impactful education which is ideally suited to helping people throughout their lives and careers.

"It is a privilege to be joining a team of dedicated, passionate experts delivering every day on the mission to be open to people, places, methods and ideas. It is also an honour to be following Kate, given her rich history with The Open University in Scotland.”

Martin succeeds Kate Signorini in the position of Depute Director (Strategy, Planning and Resources), who will leave The Open University at the end of August after 34 years across different roles.

Susan Stewart, Director of The OU in Scotland, said:

“I am delighted to welcome Martin to The Open University. His knowledge, skills and experience will be a great asset to the senior leadership team and will help us develop our strategy further and continue to advance our mission.

“I would like to thank Kate for her exceptional contribution to the OU over so many years; her work has had immense impact on shaping the organisation and, in turn, on touching the lives of many people in Scotland by opening up access to higher education.”
