The Open University is delighted to host Maths in Motion: Pendulums and Patterns as part of Maths Week Scotland 2023.

Celebrate and explore the relationship between mathematics and movement, inspired by the patterns of motion - from the predictable to the chaotic!

This free interactive exhibition brings together practical demonstrations, mathematical puzzles and art, with hands on activities for the whole family.

  • Delve in to the Leonardome and build a structure from geometric patterns.
  • Explore hands-on exhibits like the Harmonograph, the Double Pendulum and exciting Aerofoil Demonstration.
  • Learn about aperiodic tiling and the ‘Einstein’ tile.
  • Unleash your creativity with hands-on art activities inspired by ‘Curves of Pursuit’, a playful exploration of mathematical curves.

For more information on this free event and others, visit the Maths Week Scotland website.

There is a wide range of free learning about Maths on the OU's free learning site OpenLearn.
