The Open University in Scotland and the University of the West of Scotland are delighted to host a joint event: 'An Evening Conversation Towards Living Well with Dementia'.

Hear from leading speakers in the Dementia field - with opportunities for questions, networking and inspiring conversations! Chaired by: Wendy Chambers - Dementia Consultant, NHS Dumfries & Galloway

  • Myth Busting and Living Well with Dementia
    Dr Katie Davis - Lecturer in Health and Social Care at The Open University will explore what dementia is and what it isn’t! Some of the common myths and misconceptions about dementia including challenging the view that you cannot live well with dementia will also be explored. A deeper dive into the concept of living well with dementia will be discussed, including the perspectives of those living with dementia and their care partners.
  • UWS Alzheimer Scotland Centre for Policy and Practice Carers Academy
    A partnership comprising health, social care and academic dementia experts.
    Hubs are in Ayr, Lanarkshire, Dumfries and Angus.
  • Dr Anna Jack-Waugh - Senior Lecturer in Dementia at the University of the West of Scotland will outline the development and expansion of the Carers Academy and discuss family carer feedback, including research findings on its impact on family carers. Attendees will have a short taste of the type of education family carers experience.
  • Voluntary Health Scotland, the national intermediary and network for voluntary health organisations in Scotland, will also be in attendance.

The event is on Tuesday 3 June 2025 from 5.00pm - 7.00pm with refreshments available from 4.45pm and will be held at University of the West of Scotland Dumfries Campus (Level 2, Room 2062).
