Would you like to discover more about the link between learning languages, especially in older age, and brain health and well-being? Did you know that language learning can add value to elderly care and create a more inclusive and engaging environment for older adults?

If you are curious and want to find out more about research with senior language learners and their carers, on the positive impact language learning and bi-/multi-lingualism can have on brain health, even for people with dementia, join us at this unique event, co-organised by the charity Lingo Flamingo and The Open University in Scotland.

Leaders from Lingo Flamingo and The Open University will open the event, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary research and cross-sector collaboration for social cohesion. This will be followed by a reading by award-winning author Gerda Stevenson.

The programme further incorporates a presentation of findings from the partners’ research exploring the transformative impact of bringing language learning into care homes.

This will include a cross-sector expert panel, discussing the next steps needed to fully harness the benefits of engaging with languages and cultures in diverse health and social care contexts. Plus two workshops showcasing pioneering practice of multisensory and multilingual language learning with senior learners. There will also be information stalls and a networking lunch.

Secure your place at this free event by completing the online booking form by Tuesday 25 November 2025.
