New Paper alert: Papadopoulou et al 2024. Gondwana Research, Evidence for long lived continental intraplate volcanism

Papadopoulou, Martha; Barry, Tiffany; Dash, Batulzii; Halton, Alison; Sherlock, Sarah and Hunt, Alison (2024). Evidence for long-lived (>100 Myr) continental intraplate volcanism: Mongolia since the last ocean closure. Gondwana Research (in press).

In a new paper published in Gondwana Research Martha Papdopoulou and co-authors review K-Ar and Ar-Ar data from literature and present newly acquired Ar-Ar data from volcanic fields in Mongolia. The study shows that the intraplate volcanism in Mongolia has been near-continuous since its onset (~107Ma) and re-evaluates the origins of this magmatism suggesting that it results from asthenospheric upwellings initiated by a Mesozoic delamination event prolonged by enhanced mantle flow related to wider tectonics of the region.
