Colloquium to examine teaching of key subject areas

A new team at The Open University is hosting an expert colloquium during April titled "eSTEeM International: Setting the Scene". 

eSTEeM is a joint initiative between the Science Faculty and Maths, Computing and Technology Faculty (MCT), bringing together academics to develop new approaches to teaching and learning within both new and existing programmes. Focusing on the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), which are widely seen as key growth areas, eSTEeM will investigate and develop new approaches to teaching and learning. 

The colloquium aims to survey the design and delivery of distance learning and teaching in STEM education for international audiences. eSTEeM plan to explore collaborative scholarship in open and distance learning and the issues involved in delivering high quality STEM education. The two day event will include creative discussions about international partnership and a short study tour for visitors to the OU. A group of academics from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, who are working on a TEMPUS project to modernise Higher Education, as well as partners from Nigeria and China, are already confirmed to attend. 

eSTEeM builds on existing collaborations within the Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETLs) and with other Faculties. eSTEeM will share best practice and embed new approaches around priority areas such as e-assessment, online experimentation, etc.
