The OU Football Club is one of the oldest Clubs within the University, having run since the early 1970s. The Football Club provides support and funding for various football activities within the University, including the Veterans Football Club, the weekly Lunchtime Football sessions, and the annual Barry McElvenny Memorial match.
The Veterans team was launched in 2006/7 and plays competitively in the Milton Keynes Veterans league. The minimum age to play is 35. Matches take place on every Sunday morning, in and around the Milton Keynes and district area. The team trains at the OU campus in Milton Keynes during the summer months on a Tuesday evening. Anyone with experience that is eligible and interested in playing should contact Andrew McDermott, Football Club Chair (see contact details below.)
The Lunchtime Football sessions take place every Thursday at 12.30-1.20pm at the campus in Milton Keynes, either on the football pitch or the cricket outfield. Everyone is welcome to play in these open sessions and we would encourage anyone who likes a friendly game to come along and join in, irrespective of experience. The sessions are completely free and you can sign up for them at: https://lunchtime-footy.open.ac.uk/ (just bring boots and shin pads.)
The Barry McElvenny Memorial match takes place annually, usually in May, and an 11 a side match held to commemorate our former colleague, Barry, who was a member of Estates and a keen participant in OU football activities. He died a number of years ago and this match has been played in his honour since, where an Estates XI will take on a “Rest of the OU” XI, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. The match is publicised via the OU intranet a couple of months prior to the game, and sign up is made via the regular Lunchtime Football session page.
For any other Football Club information, please contact Andrew McDermott (see below).
Please note: the football pitch is not available for public hire.
