As part of Chinese New Year 2019 The Open University is celebrating with a free, fun talk and interactive workshop entitled ‘An introduction to Chinese language learning in the past, present and future’.

Presented by Ximena Arias-Manzano, Open University Staff Tutor (Languages), the talk will explore the ways in which Chinese characters were written in the past. Ximena will also discuss the evolution of Chinese characters and how computer and mobile technology have transformed the handling of characters. The importance of Mandarin in the business world today will also be discussed.

The talk is followed by a short interactive workshop, with the chance to write Chinese characters and Ximena will demonstrate The Open University’s Chinese@OU App.
