How do I attend?

Go to Relaxed tutorial: Smarter searching with library databases and select 'Join Room' located at the bottom of the page. The room remains closed until the trainer has entered - this will usually be 15 minutes before the start time.

Benefits

This 1 hour 45 minute session will go beyond Library Search and introduce you to library databases. We will explain why you would want to use a database, rather than a broader search tool such as Library Search, for finding resources. You will learn how to access library databases, how to take advantage of the functionality they offer, and how to devise an effective search technique.

Who's it for?

Suitable for level 3 and post graduate students who are required to carry out a literature search to discover what academic information exists on a topic.

What can I expect from a ‘Relaxed’ tutorial?

The content for this tutorial is the same as Smarter searching with library databases.

Here’s what to expect in a relaxed tutorial:

  • planned breaks throughout for questions, support and comfort
  • tutorials not recorded
  • flexibility in how you participate – use the chat, mic or just observe as you prefer
  • not be asked to switch on your webcam
  • not be put on the spot, or called upon by name
  • not be put into a breakout room
  • all polls are anonymous
  • leave and join the session whenever you need to

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • access and search relevant library databases
  • identify keywords from a research topic
  • use effective search techniques.
