Abstract: The talk provides an overview of some of the work using the Sen-Nussbaum approach to quality of life (and increasingly social justice) and concludes with evidence from a survey and propensity score matching analysis of 6000 women that provides evidence of capability changes following participation in self-help groups.

Bio: Paul Anand is a professor in the Economics at the Open University and research associate at the Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Sciences at the LSE. He has worked on the Sen-Nussbaum approach to wellbeing, risk, public policy and the foundations of rational choice.
