Centre for Global Challenges and Social Justice (GCSJ)

The Centre for Global Challenges and Social Justice (GCSJ) at the School of Social Sciences and Global Studies, part of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the Open University, brings together interdisciplinary research addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing societies today. Established in 2021, the Centre provides critical insight and innovative approaches to understanding and responding to global inequalities, power structures, and social transformation. 

Events and engagement

The Centre hosts a wide range of events designed to stimulate debate, share research, and connect scholars with wider audiences. These include: 

  • the GCSJ Seminar Series
  • Thinking Expansively Seminar Series (TESS)
  • roundtables and research cafés
  • book launches and workshops the annual GCSJ Research Festival 

These events provide platforms for dialogue between researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and the public, helping to extend the impact of social justice research.
