Catering options on campus

I recently received this update from Noel Fernandes, Estates:

"Just to let you know, our catering team are working on a self-service option in the Berrill catering facility, an announcement will be coming out shortly. The proposed service will enable students to self-select and pay for purchased products.  This service will allow for after hour purchases and I understand that facilities to warm food are also being made available.  Operating times are under review but likely to be from Monday morning 10:00 until Friday 16:00 so available 24/7 during these times. On Friday’s the remaining products will be treated as in point 3 below so they will be sold off at reduced prices. Items to be stocked are still under review.

On a side note, the catering manager has advised that students have recently benefitted from the following service provisions being offered / made available through our catering supplier team:

  1. The continued student 10% discount on all hot homemade meals, YTD 4,200 discounts have been given
  2. Introduction of a value meal selling at £3.25 – examples from this week’s menus, penne pasta arrabbiata with vegan parmesan, colcannon cake with a panko fried poach egg, buffalo chicken wings with potato skins
  3. Surplus unsold food at day end is being offered free to the students, during February there were 102 items with 97 being collected [EY note: near-to-expiry ‘Grab and Go’ free food in the Hub; these tend to become available between 16:00 and 16:20 each weekday (Wednesday and Friday are the best days) so it’s worth looking in if you’re nearby at that time. There are also discounts on some items from 15:00.]
  4. “Other sales offers”, promotions have been undertaken which has provided discounts totalling 2.1K during January 23 - available for all users

The caterer will be stocking some essential items, e.g. headache tablets/tissues etc, following the closure of the shop.

Kind regards

Noel"
