BRP cards are sufficient evidence of immigration statement up till 31 March 2025

Message from Sue Etchells, Compliance Senior Manager, Graduate School:

As you are aware with my previous email to you all that the government have issued this statement which I will repeat here:

“The UK Migration & citizenship minister, Seema Malhotra, has announced that the government has postponed the planned full shift to the new digital technology immigration system amid fear of individuals not being able to prove their UK Immigration Status considering the ongoing technical issues affecting hundreds of individuals at present.

Physical documentation such as BRP Cards which were planned to no longer be sufficient evidence of someone's UK Immigration Status after 31st December 2024 will now be accepted up until at least 31st March 2025.

It is therefore advised that individuals looking to leave to re-enter the UK continue to take their physical documentation (BRP Cards, BRCs, etc) with them so that they can prove their status upon re-entry.”

Following on from this, some of you are worried that the movement from different countries after your BRP card has expired.  The information above assures students that this is ok to continue using until March 2025. But to mitigate any concerns that you may have it is advisable to show your eVisa when needed, also we can provide a letter showing your current status at the Open University as well as providing this we can also provide you with a paper copy of your eVisa showing your dates of expiry etc which we can offer to you.

The letters would need to be stamped to make them valid so students who would like these documents would have to come to the Graduate School to collect them.

If you would like these documents, please email the usual email address [email protected] stating that you would like to have these documents, where we will be only too happy to do this for you.

Hopefully this will help with any concerns about re-entering the UK after the break.

Any problems or issues though please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Sue
