Announcing the winners of the SPS Outreach and Public Engagement Awards
We are delighted to announce the winners of the first ever School of Physical Sciences Outreach and Public Engagement Awards. The following people were selected for having made a significant contribution to outreach and/or public engagement with research during 2019. Congratulations to all for supporting a wide and varied programme of activities, enthusing and exciting the public about the amazing research we carry out within the School.
- Tara Hayden for her media work related to the Moon landing anniversary and related Moon activities
- Hannah Sargeant for her media work related to the Moon landing anniversary and related Moon activities
- Heidi Thiemann for her work engaging citizen scientists with the Zooniverse SuperWASP variable stars project and encouraging school groups to obtain their own data using the Faulkes Telescope
- Jack Wright for his organisation of a successful Mercury Transit viewing event
- Alice Stephant for her exceptional organisation of the Living on the Moon exhibition at the Royal Society and Moon Night
- Mahesh Anand for his work on the Moon landing anniversary, Living on the Moon exhibition and related Moon activities including media work
- Alan Cayless for his engagement with Scottish schools for testing and development of the ‘Astronomy with an Online Telescope’ free course
- Carole Haswell for her public engagement work targeting low science capital communities on Teesside
