AI generated computer person holding scales of justice

We have recently launched our suite of eight free courses, via OpenLearn Create, on ‘AI, Law and Legal Training’.

These have been designed for members of the public, volunteers, advisers and managers in charities and free advice organisations, legal professionals and law students. They aim to provide practical introductory training to support knowledge and understanding of the responsible and ethical use of Generative AI (GenAI) tools in advice and legal contexts.

It is recommended that everyone starts with the first course on ‘Understanding Generative AI’ with suggested pathways through the remainder, based on different roles and interests, to guide learners through the most relevant content for their goals.

A funded (via UKRI Responsible AI) research project in the last academic year saw Open Justice Centre Director Francine Ryan and colleague Liz Hardie collaborate with Daniel Gooch and Kevin Waugh from the STEM faculty, former Law School colleague Prof Kim Barker (now at the University of Lincoln) and Dan Barrett (Citizens Advice).

The courses, comprising 20 hours’ free learning, were also developed with support from lawyers at Fieldfisher, Mishcon de Reya and Browne Jacobson.
