This initiative aligns with both organisations’ commitment to supporting lifelong learning and addressing the growing demand for skilled, accredited professionals in the information technology sector.

John D’Arcy, Director of The Open University in Ireland, welcomed the agreement, stating:
“We are thrilled to formalise this progression pathway with FIT, an organisation that shares our dedication to accessible and career-focused education. By opening new doors for graduate software development apprentices to continue their studies with The Open University, we are empowering learners to upskill and thrive in the digital economy.”

FIT has long been recognised for its role in bridging the digital skills gap and fostering inclusive access to technology-based careers. This collaboration will enable FIT graduates to benefit from The Open University’s flexible study options, allowing them to achieve a degree whilst balancing work and other commitments.

Speaking about the agreement, Andrew Finn, Director of Academic Affairs and Programme Development at FIT, said:
“We are excited to partner with The Open University in Ireland to provide FIT apprentices with a clear progression route into higher education. This agreement reinforces our mission of creating sustainable employment opportunities in the tech industry and ensures that our graduates have the best possible prospects for future career growth.”
