Two new books on refugee justice and asylum by Dr Victoria Canning, Lecturer in Criminology at The Open University, will launch later this year.

‘Strategies for Survival, Recipes for Resistance’ (edited by Jasmin Caur, Victoria Canning, Anstey Gilley, Elisabeth Kabemba, Amina Rafique and Jennifer Verson) is a collection of photography, poetry, recipes, musical reflection and stories of the fight for refugee justice.

A workshop organised by The Open University and funded by the ESRC will address the evolving challenges faced by organisations supporting refugee groups in Malmö, Sweden.

Dr Avi Boukli, Lecturer in Criminology and Dr Tendayi Bloom, Lecturer in Politics & International Studies participated in the thematic meetings relating to smuggling and trafficking of persons at the UN in Vienna at the beginning of September. They attended the meetings and gave a spoken intervention on behalf of The Open University, based on research into private sector migration management.
