In the Chinese@OU app, there are 16 lessons which chronologically build upon each other. Each of the 16 lessons has five interactive activities with audio embedded: Writing, Reading, Listening, Rearranging, and Identifying or Word Search. This page contains the alternative format (i.e., paper version) for the above activities.
(1) Characters in the Writing, Reading and Listening Activities
All the characters in the Writing, Reading and Listening Activities in each of the 16 lessons, arranged lesson by lesson, are in one Excel file. Pinyin and the English translation are provided alongside. If you wish to hear the pronunciation of a particular character, copy and paste it into an online dictionary such as Google Translate. If you want to view how a particular character is drawn stroke by stroke, there are many free online tools such as https://hanziwriter.org/demo (copy and paste the character into the Character box, and click ‘Update demos’ to view it.
(2) Words made up of multi-characters in the Listening Activity from Lesson 6
This file contains all the multi-character words that appear in the Listening Activity from Lesson 6 to Lesson 16, together with Pinyin and English.
(3) Rearranging
This file contains all the re-arranging activities from Lesson 1 to Lesson 16. You can print it out and copy the characters you choose in the correct order based on the English prompt provided.
(4) Identifying
This file contains all the questions designed for you to distinguish similar-looking characters from each other from Lessons 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15.
(5) Word search
This file contains all the word search activities in Lesson 1 and all even-numbered lessons (i.e. Lesson 2, Lesson 4, etc. Answers are provided after each search puzzle.
